The World Rugby Sevens event features both men’s and women’s competitions and continues on Sunday.
The Canadian women’s team finished seventh in the tournament, ending their Seville campaign with a 21-5 win over Spain. The Canadians lost their fifth-place semifinal match earlier Sunday, taking a 29-0 defeat against France.
Canada’s women made it to the Cup quarter-finals, which they lost 36-12 to Ireland on Saturday.
Canada went 1-2 in pool matches, losing their opening match 33-12 to England, but rebounding with a 45-7 win against Portugal. They lost 14-7 to the United States on Saturday.
Canada’s men’s team finished 14th after losing their final match to Wales, 12-5.
Earlier Sunday the Canadians lost the ninth-place quarter-final match, dropping a 21-10 decision to Spain, before notching a 40-14 victory over Jamaica.
The Canadian men began their tournament with a 21-5 loss to Scotland on Friday, and began Day 2 with a 24-5 loss against Kenya. They wrapped up pool play with a 35-12 loss to Australia.
